Living in Korea
Swiss citizens living abroad are obliged to register with the competent Swiss representation. For further information, please refer to the questions and answers section. Should you require more specific information, please contact this Embassy
- Who has to register? Swiss citizens who intend to stay more than 12 months in South Korea have to register with this Embassy. Due to the particular situation on the Korean peninsula, it is however advised to inform this Embassy about journeys less than 12 months.
- I have been registered with a Swiss representation in another country. Do I have to register again? No, but please inform the Swiss representation where you are presently registered about your change of address. Your file will then be transferred to the competent Swiss representation.
- Can I be registered in South Korea and at the same time have my legal residence in Switzerland? No. According to Swiss law this is not possible. First you have to announce your departure at the competent authorities in Switzerland before you can be registered with this Embassy.
- Will the authorities in Switzerland automatically inform the competent Swiss representation abroad about your change of address? No, this is your responsibility. However, Swiss representations abroad automatically inform each other.
